CROSSPATHCULTURE AND CHASHAMA THEATER ANNOUNCE SOUTH AFRICAN ART EXHIBITION

NEW YORK NON-PROFIT SPONSORS SAMSON MNISI’S FIRST SOLO SHOW IN NORTH AMERICA

“Now its time to level the playing field, open the doors to the influences that are everywhere and in everyone. Examine the ritual. Identify with the sarcastic Hot Caviar Dogs as we explore the economic and social complexities of life.” -Cannon Hersey, Executive Director, CrossPathCulture, Ltd.

CrossPathCulture (CPC), in conjunction with the Chashama Theater, presents “The Hot Caviar Dogs,” a ritual experience created by Samson Mnisi and curated by Cannon Hersey. Located at the Chashama Theater, the exhibition will feature mixed and multi-media constructions, paintings and projections created by Mr. Mnisi alone and in conjunction with digital artist Ken Feinstein and filmmaker Kefoue Molapo.

Exploring a non-traditional gallery environment in the heart of Times Square, Mnisi will utilize the unique lighting and theatrical setting in order to create a ritual experience for his audience. The exhibition will feature three pieces from his solo show “Path =+” and new pieces created during his CPC residency in New York.

This exhibition marks the fifth collaboration between Mnisi and Hersey. Previous collaborations include a solo show by Mr. Mnisi entitled “Path =+,” which was the inaugural event at the CPC SA Center, a 50,000 square foot cultural center in downtown Johannesburg, which was curated by Mr. Hersey.

Selected solo and group exhibitions by Mnisi include “Liberated Voices”, a traveling show from the Museum of African Art (1999-), “The Art Métise”, a solo show on Reunion Island, which included the design of a billboard (1998), “Black in Town”, a two-man show in the DeBeers Diamond Building, Johannesburg (1996), and “Samson at the Corner,” a solo show at the Market Theater Gallery, Johannesburg (1996)

Mnisi’s work is featured the collections of BMW, Frances Fergusson, (Ford Foundation Trustee and President of Vassar College), Johannesburg Gallery, William W. O’Neill, among others.

This show is sponsored in part by South African Airways.
