Zhang Huan | Dr. Brian Grosz

Zhang Huan was born in An Yang City in the He Nan Province of China. He studied at the He Nan University and the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijeng. A highly experimental performance artist, Huan has completed a number of complex pieces, several of which have recently been debuted in America at various art spaces, including the Asia Society and P.S. 1. Works such as "Foam," "To Add One Meter to an Anonymous Mountain" and "Nine Holes" are full of a tranquil, yet disquieting power. Recent showings of Huan's works have included their appearance at the 1999 Biennale di Venezia, Venice and a one-man show at the Max Protech Gallery in New York City. His work is in a number of museums and public galleries, including the Denver Art Museum, the Philadelphia Art Museum, the Asia Museum of Fukuoka, Japan, and the University Art Museum at U.C., Berkeley, CA.
