A member of the Democratic Parliment of South Africa and the African National Congress, Dr. Serote also serves as Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for Arts, Culture, Language, Science and Technology, and the National Steering Committee for Indiginous Knowledge Systems. He has a masters in Fine Arts from Columbia and honorary doctorates in Literature from the Universities of Natal and Transkei.
